Mississippi is the “Birthplace of America’s Music,” and the heartbeat of that music is right here in Natchez. Both Blues and Gospel music have deep roots in this old river city. This Natchez Unity Concert celebrates the origin of both the blues and gospel, and there are no better performers anywhere to celebrate these two musical legacies better than our own Natchezians, YZ Ealey and Alvin Shelby. Blues legend YZ has a lifelong history of playing the Mississippi Blues; he is a true ambassador for this music around the nation. Alvin Shelby and the Highway to Heaven Choir perform the best Gospel music that Mississippi has to offer. This concert will feature some of Mississippi’s best original music, the music that we are known for around the world, the music that unites us!
